Products I Dream of Designing

We are in 24-7 business building mode behind the scenes at MM HQ. How a company runs year six is not the same as year two, and it’s time to make some changes! I think the biggest challenge of running a creative business is the constant code-switching your brain has to do. If we’re running financials, reviewing legal documents and going over production buys all day, I simply can’t design or film inspirational Tiktoks. It’s two different brains. I’m not able to hop back and forth easily.
Sometimes a high tree-top dreaming session helps me unwind at the end of a long business building day. I have a long laundry list of products I would love and dream of designing someday. Some are easy and others take years of research and development. I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback, as you’re my most active MM community!
A perfect two tone 90’s pointed toe mule.
Not this graphic at all, but I dream of our first shoe as a pointed two-tone mule. I’d love a little bow or a knot, in all different two tones. Navy and white, pink and white, the works. It’s all on the list.
A hotel takeover.
It seems I’m just starting to talk to you about my manifestation board this year. So be it. I want to see an island paradise SWAGGED out in a custom MM print. The upholstery, the linens, the waitress uniforms, everything. I’ll never forget the first summer I went to Surf Lodge (It was 2015, back when it was all still cool) and saw Zimmerman designed the waitress uniforms. It was the coolest thing I’d ever heard for a cool indie brand to design hotel uniforms. So much can change in a decade…
The perfect trench coat.
This I will most likely make in Italy. We just don’t manufacture complex outerwear here the way they can in Europe. I dream about making a really oversized, relaxed trench coat someday. It’s very high on the list for us to get back into outerwear. We just need the right manufacturing partners. And eight other things. More on that later!
Terrycloth for swim and sun.
Clothes, towels, sweaters, the works. I think it’s such a fun new category for us. It’s much more relaxed than the traditional fabrics we use.
More complex evening.
This can be challenging for a digitally native business, but it’s our background and something we love designing. Complex evening is my favorite thing to design. I could look at ten thousand different lace patterns. All the complicated measurements that go into scalloped lace is my wheelhouse.
A perfect stretch silk cigarette pant.
I will do it eventually and it will be perfect. I have a stretch silk hanging in my office and it’s just about perfect. They won’t be skin tight or too short. Everything I see on the market now fits like Lululemon yoga pants. I can’t wait. These things take time to perfect.
Molly Martini
I love the idea of a small amount of silver and glass martini wares for the bar. Perhaps a mix of vintage and new, who knows. Both for island, town and country.

I’d love to hear what else you’d like to see on the list. We’re always open to listening to your dream MM products.
xx,
MM
