THE GRADUATE

The Graduate - Molly Moorkamp Clothing Inspiration

Movies are one of our biggest sources of inspiration. They are constantly referenced at MM not only for the clothes, but for the sets, the music, cinematography, the list goes on.. One film that immediately comes to mind is Mike Nichol’s 1967 classic “The Graduate”.

The coming of age story showcases the spirit of late 60s Pasadena, and we could take endless style notes from the ambivalently chic Mrs. Robinson, played by Anne Bancroft. Her daughter Elaine, played by Katherine Ross, is also an enviable and opposite beauty.

The film features enviable aesthetics on every level; Mrs. Robinson’s high piled hair, slinky animal print cocktail frocks & Harry Winston jewels, the black and white exotica bar/sun porch in their genteel Pasadena home, Benjamin’s Alfa Romeo, Elaine’s flower child bridal moment, and the haunting soundtrack by Simon and Garfunkel make us want to play “Sunporch Cha-Cha-Cha” everytime we pour a gin and tonic.
